Debbie Donates pay rise to BHF!

I meet lots of very generous people in my job, but the generosity still surprises me and makes me grin like a big idiot. Imagine my surprise on Friday, when I woke up to a message from the Chair of the Fundraising Group in Stroud (Kate) to say that one of the local Conservative Councillors, Cllr Debbie Young had decided to donate her pay rise to BHF. Debbie is the Conservative councillor for the Chalford Ward of Stroud District Council. At a meeting last week, the council decided to award an 8.3% pay rise to the councillors of the district - the Conservatives do not think that this is fair, so have each decided to donate their pay rises to charity. Debbie has been working with Kate of the Stroud Fundraising Group on a new event for the summer - the Great Stroud Bake Off, and so Debbie naturally chose to donated her pay rise to BHF. Councillor Debie Young said " We all felt the 8.3% increase in allowances was uncalled for espcially at this time, when council tax payers will not have a pay rise for several years, so as a group we decided we would all give the money to our individual charities. As I am working with the British Heart Foundation on the Great Stroud Bakeoff it seemed appropriate to donate it here" Thank you Cllr Young for this VERY kind gesture, and for all of the other Conservative Councillors who will be donating to other charities.
